What you said above reminded me of this poem by W H Auden. It was read in a film (no idea which, I’m not a film fan ).


“ Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;

Four Weddings and a Funeral 😢

I’m so sorry for your loss. 54 is no age at all. Thinking of you and your family. What precious memories you have together.

I've been refreshing this every day and your lovely messages have been comforting. I've by far in my 31 years had the worst week of my life.

I am so so sad, but feel I've turned a corner today. I've only had toast this week but today I had half a roast dinner and even managed some cake. I've probably cried the same tears and felt more sadness, but I know dad wouldn't want me like this forever.

I might not think the same tomorrow but if I see this message to myself it might help me see the hope in today's me.

I’ve been thinking of you a lot Louise, and I’m glad to see your post this evening, and that you’ve felt a tiny bit better today. Even if you don’t tomorrow, you now know that it’s possible to have a slightly better day. As you say, your dear Dad wouldn’t want you to be suffering like that forever, and so it’s good to recognise that it’s okay to feel a bit better.
