Sorry! Another airmiles s.o.s
Wondered if someone who knows about airmiles could advise please?! We flew to Florida in 2016 (5 adults and 3 children one of which was over 12) joined the flying club therefore each (6 out of the party) collecting the airmiles. They are due to expire in 2019. What if any is the best way of using them? Can we pool them in some way or do they have be used by each individual member? Alternatively would it be cheaper to buy a a cheap BA flydrive if one becomes available and forget the airmiles completely. I think it would be fair to say none of us plan on adding to them through purchases etc. Looking at possibly going next year. Just not sure what to do if anything at all?

In order for airmiles with virgin to not expire you have to add some airmiles to the account. That can be through things like tesco clubcard, shops away (their shopping portal on the flying club website) or a multitude of other ways.
Realistically, if you've only got one flights worth of airmiles you won't get much use out of them at this stage. What is worthwhile doing though is keeping them ticking over until a point where you can potentially use them. Difficult part is keeping them all active. In all likelihood you won't be able to keep several peoples active without flying VA periodically. Pooling is technically not permitted HOWEVER plenty of people on here have pooled successfully by calling flying club when booking flights. More info on using airmiles is on the VA website at virginatlantic/gb/en...end-miles.html |

If your not planning to go immediately it would be worth looking into getting at least one of the new Virgin Money Credit Cards. We put all our usual day to day spending in the UK on this - food, clothing, petrol etc so spending we would be doing anyway BUT make sure you settle the whole bill every month so you don't incur interest charges. This way you will be surprised how quickly you can notch up extra free miles. You also get an initial sign up bonus. This way your Flying Club account stays active as miles get credited each month.

I take it that all 6 have Virgin Airmiles accounts? Or is it one person? Extending the Airmiles best before date is easily done if you register for Tesco Club card points to automatically transfer into Airmiles. We don’t regularly shop there but if you pop in now and then it soon adds into points. FYI I had an email a couple of weeks ago saying the Airmiles scheme is changing next year but I guess points will automatically transfer.
