Help! Disney Resort Changed Without Telling Us!

Hello folks, first post on here, and it's not a good one!

I am hoping that my family are not the first that this has happened to (although I wouldn't wish it on anyone), but hopeful to get some help or advice!

In a nutshell:

So, I am hoping someone might have experienced this before, and can give me some idea of what will happen from now on...

The story goes:

2 week holiday for Oct/Nov 2018 booked in April 2017 direct with Virgin in their Meadowhall store.

Resort booked is the Contempory, and deposit paid.

1 month ago logged into the WDW app, showing us as being in the Animal Kingdom.

Contacted WDW by email (thought it might be a booking issue with them), after a few emails told to contact Virgin.

Went to Virgin, they had no idea what was going on, left it with them.

After 2 weeks of enquiries by Virgin, we are being told that there are no rooms free at The Contemporary for our dates, so we have been moved to the Animal Kingdom by Disney.

So, apart from the price difference between the two resorts (and Animal Kingdom being some distance away from where we want to be), it appears that our dream holiday to the Contemporary has come crashing down!

Virgins terms and conditions make mention of 'major changes' and that they can change your holiday up to 12 weeks before departure! That doesn't seem quite fair to me...

Has anyone else ever experienced anything at all like this? At the minute I am speechless...

Any help would be much appreciated. I curreńtly have a very tearful wife...

Wow what are Virgin playing at. You aren’t the first person this has happened to recently booking through Virgin. I know one person managed to get their correct hotel reinstated - I’m sure someone will be along with the link address. Hope you get it all sorted.

Have you tried going through the booking process online with Disney for the dates you want but stopping short of actually booking? That at least would tell you if it is actually full.

It is dreadful when we have to go to such lengths. I find it hard to believe that the Contemporary is fully booked so far in advance!

The person in this thread emailed Kathy.Matthews@disney.com and they sorted it out for her, so hopefully she'll be able to help you too.

Sounds like a recurring theme with BB at the moment unfortunately 🙁

Just tried that. It's £14,000 for a room at the Contemporary! We definitely didn't get quoted that

Personally, I'd email her as I've not read many reports of virgin being overly helpful in these situations. You don't want to be waiting and stressing. Good luck 😊

I agree.

So I've done it, in for a penny...

And it's bounced back saying she is out of the office with no access to emails...

No dates given though. I wonder if she has been inundated with emails recently
