the only problem is now that any payments made are not a safe payment method as very limited options on how to pay

Can I just confirm, I made my initial deposit with charter via Visa card, subsequently I have made payments via bank transfer as I was informed that they charged ( new policy) for using a visa debit, I’ve paid nigh on 3k so far, now they are only taking bank transfer , do I need to be concerned ? I’m paying this way and didn’t think it was an issue, but seeing this post has now made me panic.
What do I need to do? , are they in trouble as a company do I need to cancel/rebook

Help
Jules

Please don't panic, it is most probably simply because of the introduction of the abolishment of credit card fees. I am sure you will be fine

I would imaging pretty much everyone pays by card to Ryanair so it's an easy way for them to make money.

What'll happen now is that companies like Charter Travel, who presumably are a decent company with good intentions, will have to start to make an 'admin' charge on each and every booking, thus raising the cost to every customer, not just the ones who want to use a credit card.

Banning CC charges was done with the best of intentions but the effect will be that the consumers will collectively lose out in the long term. So, not a good law in my opinion.

Re charter travel, can you imagine how much the loss of the CC charge would cost them if they absorbed it? A small fortune I would expect. Give them a break, they're in a tricky situation until this all beds in. They're just trying to make a living, as we all do.
Most companies don’t charge a fee for card payments as is. Why are the costs of card payments any different to cash handling, or cheque lodging, or phone bills, or any costs associated with running your business?

The problem here isn’t the law, it’s companies who advertise one price, knowing they can add on charges on the bank end

FWIW more companies will move towards card only than will stop taking them

As long as you have paid a £1 on credit card, then you are covered, but the thought of paying huge amounts on bank transfer scares me. I havent had a cheque book for years.
I can imagine the stories soon of people paying £3000+ on bank transfer and mis typing a number, or the amount of spam I will now get, trying to trick me to pay off my balance to some Nigerian bank account.
This just puts the fault with the customer as the TA wont care if you have paid someone else by accident.

The problem is that companies will now inevitably factor credit card fees into the headline price.

Everyone will now pay more irrespective of payment method.

Most companies did anyway. That’s the point

Which of course is no different to other parts of life. People pay the same tax for health and education even if they don't use state education or healthcare

The world isn't fair, but at least all of these situations are transparent

It is actually £100. Section 75 is the common name for the protection. It covers you up to £30,000 as long as you have paid at least £100 on the credit card.

Because it doesn’t cost companies 2.5% (?) of the total sale to accept cash and pay it into the bank or to bank a cheque or to make a few phone calls. 2.5% of a £7,000 holiday x 100’s of customers is a massive loss.
