I’ve been veggie for 35 years, but i do cook meat for OH. I used to make separate meals but OH is happy to eat quorn mince which is very versatile. I also like the quorn chicken pieces (not on their own!) but OH doesn’t like them. Some of our favourite meals are Mexican based such as enchilada pie or fajitas. Stuffed portobello mushrooms in a brioche bun are lovely and I’m also a fan of risotto with either leeks or caramelised onions. Lentil shepherds pie is also nice. Hairy bikers do a nice sausage casserole, but I cook the veggie sausages separately as they sometimes fall apart depend on which brand I’m using. Some recipes I’ve been cooking for years but others are from the internet.

I really like Gardein beefless strips (Sainsbury’s). They are lovely in a stir fry.

Looked at what DD19 has eaten lately - she is a full veggie - we are "less meat" but good meat when we do eat meat.

For meat substitutes:

Linda McCartney sausages in a nice sausage casserole - we cook them first in the oven, add a packet mix - a lot of the are veggie before you add the rest of the ingredients - or fry some onions, add some stock and veg and put in oven for 45 min. We eat that in a big yorkshire pudding.

Quorn steak strips - nice done in gravy as a "roast" dinner equivalent - so we would have roast beef/chicken, DD would have Quorn steak strips in gravy, all the rest of the food the same.

For just veggie meal - DD likes a ratatouille - courgette/aubergine/tomatoes/mushrooms/onions and sometimes sliced sweet potato - all roasted in the oven, then she likes to cover it in passata/tinned tomatoes and leave it in the oven for half an hour, serve with the bread you get part baked in the supermarket to slurp up the juices.

She likes fried halloumi instead of chicken in things like fajitas, or even a couple of slices fried and in a sandwich with ripe tomatoes and ground black pepper.

And risotto - she likes a "green" one with broad beans, asparagus and peas. (with a non parmesan cheese - parmesan is not veggie)

Sorry to jump on thread but wondered what people’s favourite veggie sausages are? tried shroomdogs chorizo ones today in a paella. Didn’t really enjoy them although my sister raved about them. kids didn’t like either.

We like the Richmond meat free ones best followed by Linda McCartney. There’s often a half price or similar offer on somewhere with LM sausages and burgers and personally I don’t think the meat free options are more expensive than meat options unless you’re comparing to really cheap meat

No I don’t think meat free options are more expensive than meat either. Find them quite reasonable. I’ve heard about richmond meat free ones but haven’t seen them in sainsbury’s. Do you mean LM sausages in fridge section or the frozen ones?
I’ve tried the sausage rolls. quite like them.

I changed to a vegetarian diet last November and I do miss sausages. I have a gluten intolerance and have not found a safe sausage yet. I am struggling a little overall as lots of the veggie alternatives have wheat products in them. My dd is also veggie and loves the Richmond and Cauldron sausages.

I didn’t like the shroomdogs chorizo ones but they do a cumberland and caramelised onion and i’m pretty sure they’re gluten free. They’re made by sainsbury’s. lots of people rave about them so maybe worth a try
