Las Vegas Virgins - 7 days of fun

As me and DBF (Tony) are off on a rather expensive cruise this Christmas, we decided to try and find a cheapie hol for 1 week this summer.

Having a quick look on Expedia, we were amazed to see we could get a week in Vegas (where we had ALWAYS wanted to go) for £705. This included direct flights with BMI from Manchester and a stay at the TI (Treasure Island). We did initially debate to upgrade our accommodation to somewhere like the Whynn or Bellagio, but figuring this was meant to be a 'cheap' week and we would hardly be in our room anyway, we stuck with the TI, especially after reading favourable reports on Trip Advisor (our bible for holidays).

Anyway, come 5.30am Tues 5th June we were on our way to manchester airport. The flight wasn't until 10am but we wanted to get there early to see if we could get extra legroom seats.

Once we got to T3 it was a bit small, and not that easy to see where to check in, but once we got ourselves sorted we were pleased to find we could get the seats we anted - emergency exit and 2 together on the left of the plane (28 A & C I think).

Once we were all checked in, off we went to find the walkway to get us to T1 and Garfunfunkels for breakfast (very good). I was very pleased to say this was a 2 min walk, and it was nice to be able to have a look round T1, as there isn't that much as T3.

Boarding etc was all on time, and I was pleased with BMI. Our seats were great (lots of room), and even 'normal' seats looked like they had decent legroom. The entertainment was great, the usual movies etc but we also had Nintendo games within the seat back entertainment (or under the seat and swing up TV's in our case).

Menu's were given out for food, and our pre-booked bottle of champagne came before the drinks trolly. It was nicely chilled, and not a bad taste for £20.

For lunch we both had a salad to start with bread roll (nothing exciting) but we both chose the chicken korma which was excellent. We also got a choccie bar and ice-cream. Not bad at all. The cabin crew were extremely friendly and I have to say this was one of the best flights we had taken - even on a par with Virgin PE (in the bubble).

Once we arrived immigration wasn't too bad (about 20mins) and our luggage was laready waiting for us. Straight out of the terminal at McCarren and the heat hit us. It was like a hairdryer being blown onto your face - very warm but very welcome.

No queue for the taxi which was a bonus, but I think we did go the 'long way' to TI as it costed about $26 whereas it should only have been about $15. Oh well, not a problem.

Check-in at TI was a breeze (no queue and I had heard horror stories of waiting for hours) but I think it being a Tues was in our favour. At check in we did ask about upgrades as it was Tony's birthday whilst we were away and we only had a deluxe (basic) room booked. The girl didn't think there was anything, but after checking she did upgrade us (free ) to a high strip view room (21-097). Excellent.

Again, as TI was quite small compared to other hotels, it was a bonus being able to get to our room in less than 5 mins, although we did have to make the obligitory trek through the casino.

First impressions of the room were excellent. Large extra king bed, very clean, although it was a bit on the small side.

The bathroom was very clean with a large basin and mirror, which is always handy. Plenty of towels, a large tub and a shower.

The best bit though had to be the view. The TI has floor to celing windows and when the curtains were drawn back it was great to see Las Vegas in all its glory.

We could even see the pool below.

After a quick shower and upack (not a great deal of storage unfortunately) we were off to see what Vegas was all about.

We decided to check out the Fashion Show mall first (which was next door) for a quick bite to eat and then we went to our first big hotel - the Whyn which I had read so much about and was excited to see. It is one of the newest hotels and is very swish.

The shopping inside the hotel was fantastic, including some very upmarket shops, and even I Jo Malone I was happy to see.

By now we were really starting to flag, and even though I knew we had to stay up as long as possible, we decided to head back for an early night.

Well even though the beds were the MOST comfortable I have ever slept in, it was still a bit of a restless night. It wasn't helped by wanting to watch the world go by from the window. The strip at night when all lit up is absolutely amazing.

Anyway, it was finally morning and as I had done a bit of research before we went (suprise suprise) we decided to try the Paris hotel Village buffet for breakfast which was meant to be very good. At this stage we had no idea how far things were from each other, so we decided to take a cab to the Paris hotel.

The hotel itself boasts an Arc d'Triumphe replica, as well as a 1/2 size Eiffel Tower.

Once inside, we found the themeing continued, with the celiling made out to look like a sky, and the casino to replicate a Parisian street. It was very beautiful and just a bit Disney-esque!

We finally found the buffet and although there was a queue, we were only in it for about 30mins. I have to say the wait was definately worth it. We paid about $14 and it was amazing. It was designed to look like a French hamlet with cobblestone paths and antique lampposts. The servers were all dressed in peasant frocks, and the food was amazing.

Choices ranged from the usual sausage, bacon, hash browns, eggs benedict etc, to made to order omlette's and crepes. The selection was overwhelming, and the quality excellent - I just wished I could have ate more!

Following our huuuggggggggeeeeee brekkie, we needed some exercise to walk it off, so decided to visit the Miricle Mile shops next door (part of the Planet Holywood hotel - formerly the Aladdin).

Again, even this mall was beautifully themed.

Next stop was a nosey around the Planet Hollywood casino itself, which became a big favourite over the week, especially for the gambling. We had a quick go on the slots here, and then moved onto the Bellagio across the street. Most of the strip had walkways going over the roads so it really is easy to get to one hotel to another.
