Those of you who don't tip might be interested to learn how much these hardworking people earn. I'm not sure where the idea that they can't accept tips comes from.
If you just leave a $1 or $5 bill out, they might not think it's a tip, so put it with a note. Anything between $2-5. Believe me, just about every position in the US is a tipped position.

If I left the tip on the pillow it was taken, anywhere else in the room it was not.
I assume because dollar bills are not randomly left on a pillow but on a table it could be theft. I left $1pppn last time I went my understanding was it was the done thing, but if that is no longer the case then I may not next May

From Disney itself...My DD was told that when she did the college program. She could only do jobs that were not tipped ones. Some jobs at disney are tipped positions whilst others are not. Taking tips in a non tip job can be construed as taking a bribe.

I've never tipped for housekeeping in any hotel I've stayed at. However, its a free world and you can give money away to whoever you like! So tip if you want to but as has been discussed above make it clear to the chambermaid so that she/he doesn't feel uncomfortable.
On our recent trip we had a wedding anniversary and cards in the bedroom. We came back on the day after to find a solid white chocolate Mickey and chocolate strawberries in the room! We asked who had made this lovely gesture and were told "its Mickey of course!" Hahaha!. So as it must have been the housekeeping staff who told the hotel it was our anniversary we gave her a tip on the last day to say thank you for arranging it So my advice is- tip if you want but don't feel obliged to and tip if someone goes above and beyond! |

The American hotel and lodging association suggest tipping between $1-5 per day left in an envelope. I tip housekeeping wherever I go cos my dad taught me too 40 years ago. But it’s up to the individual at the end of the day if they want too or not. Kat Edited at 09:44 PM. |
