Help with North Carolina

We have 3 nights to stay somewhere on our way back to Washington after staying in Tennessee. We are thinking of somewhere near the beach for our teenagers as after Washington we are staying 6 nights in New York so looking for something still lively but also just to chill . Can anybody recommend an area or beach that would suit please ?

Look at the OuterBanks lots to do and very popular with folks both local and from Virginia

Would also recommend the Outerbanks we did this when we did a trip from Washington to Shenandoah, Blueridge Parkway and then across to Kitty Hawk and back up to Washington with a couple of nights in Williamsburg on way last year. We were supposed to be in Outer Banks for 4 nights but we only could stay 2 as Hurricane Florence was headed there and there was mandatory evacuation issued. It is lovely there and we hope to get back sometime to do the things we had planned but didn’t get to. We did visit Roanoke Island there where a community disappeared when the pilgrims landed there and also a dolphin watch trip where we saw lots of dolphins. Had planned a kayak trip on the Alligator River but didn’t get to do this. But it really is lovely there and worth the trip.
