Mobile Has anyone been to Switzerland?

Thinking of going to Switzerland next year (probably May). Hoping to fly into Zürich and home from Geneva with a trip on the Golden Pass in the middle but other than that don’t really know where to start in terms of trip planning! Any advice appreciated

My recommendation would be the Bernese Oberland / Jungfrau region. Interlaken is the centre but the villages of Wengen, Murren, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald are beautiful.
We’ve driven there as well as train from Geneva - it’s a fab journey.

We have been to Switzerland many times. We found driving from the Uk the best option. It takes two days. We liked having our car with us when we got there as you will need to hire one otherwise. We always stayed in Interlaken very close to lake Thun. It’s a great base to get to all the other close areas to visit. We always went in the school holidays (August). Switzerland is a beautiful country, great walks and scenery, the kids loved it. We found self catering or camping being the best option as we had lots of barbeques.

When our kids were younger we took our caravan all over Europe but each year we always managed to get to our favourite site in Matten on the outskirts of Interlaken. Such a beautiful area.

We usually had our car but on the two occasions we didn’t it wasn’t a problem at all. As you know, the public transport system (trains, buses, post-buses, Lake steamers, cablecars, funiculars, etc) is second to none.

Where we stayed (Manor Farm) at Interlaken we needed a car it was a couple of miles to the town where the Railway station was. We also needed the supermarket so it was essential for us. There were buses but transport would have cost us loads of money (two adults and two children) just getting in the car saved so much time.

Yes, I take your point but I was seeing it from the OP’s point of view who will be flying in, arriving by train and more than likely staying in a town or village with good transport links.

Make sure you take plenty of £££'s opps sorry Swiss francs. Have to agree wholeheartedly, Bernese Oberland and Jungfrau are just stunning.

Switzerland is now, even more so a very expensive place to stay, eat and drink. Zermatt last year, nearly broke the bank!

We have been many times. Just got back from Zurich (not the best place in Switzerland I have been to) but we took the train across and down into Tirano italy. Absolutely breathtaking.
Have done a lot of rail journeys in Switzerland. Do your research on trains, we travelled on a local train and it used the same route/track as the Bernina Express but was much cheaper.

Montreaux is beautiful and you can do several rail journeys from there.

Lucerne and Bern are are definitely my favourites though.

I love Switzerland, however my bank account doesn't Very expensive!
