You really hope that the company you are travelling with does not go under.

Happened to me twice in the past with Intasun and Liberty World Travel.

Hope everyone either gets their holiday and money back and that the Thomas Cook Staff get back on their feet soon.

Its standard practice to trade right up until the point of entering administration and there are many people whio will have been unlucky booking or travelling at last minute.

I try to thoroughly check airlines etc now and that is why i have steered clear of Norwegian to USA next year as they are in financial Meltdown as well.

I try to book BA Holiday flights and car and pay £300 deposit which i would lose if i cancelled.
I book hotels on Free Cancellation so i wont get stung and no money up front.
Its just a matter of trying to restrict your losses if any of the elements you book fail.

Do It Yourself always for me

From a selfish point of view I was hoping this would happen, rather than worrying in a months time when we are away.

Even if they had got funding, they would have gone in the short term - people would not be keen to book with them in case they did go bust so they would have gone sooner or later.

It's so horrible my first ever trip to Florida was with TC.

I feel awful for all of the people due to fly out and those that have woken up with no job.

Such sad news we used them a few times just flights and full holidays feel so sad for the staff. Just to say if ou booked a full holiday you be coved but if you just booked flights then you need to go though your insurance.

We have flight only booked through TC for next year, phoned our insurance this morning and they say we are not covered for End Failure Insurance on our annual policy as this would have had to be booked separately. They said very few insurance policies include this nowadays .

Am currently on hold with our Credit card provider to register a claim under Section 75

Really sad, I flew over to Florida with them 2 years ago they were great. Also one of the companies to release flights early so I could book everything at the same time. Bit of a worry at the time paying the full amount upfront, but paid on cc and took the charge to do so.
Is it right that the flight only side of the business was profitable?

Sadly not all insurance has that, so not a given covered via that route.

We've flown TC MAN - MCO, and were booked Glasgow - MCO.

I'd imagine they flew to MCO from Heathrow also?

Im pretty sure it was only Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow.

I remember flying with them as JMC in around 2001 into Sanford on their "New" A330s in their premium cabin. They only changed back to MCO in the last few years?

Edit: For anyone in Orlando if not posted elsewhere these are the travel details to get people home. Looks like its a Titan and extra Virgin flight to get people home
