This is my DH every day for the last 3 years at least he was prescribed Amitriptyline to help with it but it doesn’t help much. He still takes ibuprofen or paracetamol and codeine too when it becomes unbearable.

You are right it is a medicine usually used for treating high blood pressure, however it can also be used to treat migraines (or rather as a migraine preventer when taken regularly). Many medicines are used "off licence" (i.e. outside the use for which the manufacturer made the trails for that gave them the evidence to submit to licensing authorities).
Off-licence does not mean unsafe though. Most medicines for children are prescribed off licence due to the difficulties in doing clinical trials on kids. It's a perfectly well accepted usage. OP, I hope this link will reassure you: migrainetrust/living...ive-medicines/

I was prescribed this last week for migraines. One tablet a day- low dose. Monitoring as I do get dizzy spells, used to get very low BP. Too early to say what side effects are, especially as I’ve forgotten a few days!

Um, in a roundabout way, yes. I’ve been incredibly conscious of an extreme upswing in my appetite - and it’s entirely a mental feeling rather than a physical one. What I mean is I constantly think I’m hungry rather than actually feeling physical hunger in my stomach if that makes sense?
A quick Google search confirmed that in some countries Pizotefen is used as an appetite stimulant and the percentage rates of weight gain as a side effect are high, so this is why; whilst it doesn’t put weight on by itself it dramatically alters your appetite and it’s subsequently how you deal with that. I have a friend who also takes it for migraines and has not had a weight gain, but she is incredibly focussed on healthy eating and exercise anyway - she does say however it takes great effort sometimes not to give in to the belief that she needs more food. So I suppose both are possible? I hope that’s useful for you. |
