Aargh esta

My head is pounding it has just taken me an hour to complete this. Would not accept the photo,s kept timing me out, but its done now so i can focus on other things like car parking before we fly.

Why did you need a photo for an ESTA? Genuine question as we've never been asked for one.

Did you use the official ESTA site? I've never been asked for a photo before...

There is an option to upload your passport photograph but if you scroll down the page a little it says that you can still enter the details manually.

Mick

Its actually to send in a picture of the whole passport page so that it shows all the details. This can save you entering the details in the online form as they use this to authorize the ESTA

Personally I found it easy to just enter the details

Have you done one in the last two years? If so, on the official site right next to where you can put your name there is a section marked Upload Your Passport along with the electronic symbol for a picture. This takes up about a third of the width of the page, so should be easy to see.
I found it really easy as it transposes all the details on your PP and fills in a lot of boxes automatically, inc the “ First Name” issues that’s had lots of coverage on the Dibb.

Do a dummy application and you will see it on the first page.

I did our ESTAs yesterday. I saw the upload passport option but I figured by the time I'd faff around getting the pictures onto laptop and uploaded to website (internet appalling here) it would be quicker for me to just type the info in.

Took me an age to do the first one mostly because I triple checked everything. Also, I'd forgotten about the address bit being a pain, not accepting because we don't have house numbers (at least I think that's the reason), but once I googled and found solution (just keep pressing return and you will get option to override) I remembered having that issue last time too. Anyway got them all done eventually and approved. Another job done

Having had live ESTAs since they were introduced in Jan 2009 I'm far happier spending 5 minutes entering the passport data manually. Never had any issues.

But as I've said a hundred times on here. Check and double check the questions. Check and triple check the answers. It's not a race.

Yeah I couldn’t get the upload passport via photo to work either-shame as would have been useful. I gave up after three attempts
