Damp patch on concrete floor

Friend has had a soggy patch on her carpet for a week now. She's pulled the carpet up and the solid concrete floor underneath is damp.
It's in the doorway between her kitchen and living room, approximately 3 metres away from an external wall. The patch itself is just under a metre across. Any ideas on cause ? And who should she contact to get it sorted ? Thanks

Is it in line with her stop cock in the kitchen and stop cock or water meter outside her property. If so this could be the cause.
Also check her house insurance for trace and access. If she has it the insurance will cover the cost of tracing the leak and repairing it. If not she will be covered for water damage but will need to pay for the tracing and repair.
All people should add trace and access to their insurance. It’s cheap but essential IMO.
Good luck.

As always with any unforeseen damp or wet patch get it exposed for a week. Then keep testing it with a damp meter to see how it’s doing.

If it’s still damp it’s a pipe underneath or above it that is causing the issue. Never discount a leak from above as they can go unnoticed until you go hunting. The sad news is water tracks in weird ways so where it’s damp may not be where the issue is.

We had this years ago. I was standing in front of the sink and the floor felt spongy. Lino up, plywood up and polystyrene insulation up. All sopping. We never did trace the leak but everything eventually dried out and DH filled the hole with sand and covered it with plywood so I could walk around. Once we were sure it wasn’t going to happen again - about 5 years later! we paid a fortune to have the floor repaired. Looking back we should have claimed on insurance but we were young and never even thought about it.

An update on friends floor. Insurance sent someone out to do the trace/ access. It's an incorrectly installed washing machine that has been pumping water under the floor. Friend should be able to claim costs from the company who installed it.
