Mobile Ba Flight and car queries

Found an ok price for a ba flight and car option (1580 for 2a2c sept) do you have to pay to book seats on top of that price (tried doing a dummy booking) also is it worth being able to pay the deposit and being protected rather than flight only?

Thanks

Yes seats are extra. With children in the party you will be be allocated seats together a few days before olci. Usually 4 across the middle depending on the plane.

The selling point for a fly drive for me is the atol protection and the deposit.

If you are a BA Executive Club member with a Silver (or above) status you would be able to chose your seats when booking. Also being an EC member would normally qualify you to have an extra driver free if the car hire is through Avis.

Also don't forget to check if the flight only fares you are looking at are Hand Baggage only.

If you have kids under 12 BA will usually sit you together. They allocate seats for families about 5 days before the flight.
Also ba fy drive includes all insurance for the car hire.

BA does not currently sell hand baggage only fares on packages (flight with hotel and/or car), standard baggage allowance is included.

As to paying for seating, obviously it’s a personal thing, but with under 12s in the party, the chances of being separated in economy are fairly slim. As mentioned above, seats will be allocated 3-6 days prior, and you could decide whether to pay to move or not at that point. Unless you require seats in a particular cabin location, there isn’t usually a need for parties with under-12s to pay to be together. Of course, this is not 100% guaranteed.

My view is that with BA, ATOL protection is almost irrelevant. I would not buy a BA holiday for ATOL protection, a lower price and/or the convenience of the deposit arrangement would be the main deciding factors, and ATOL protection is no more than a “nice to have”. BA/IAG isn’t going bankrupt anytime soon.

Plus the fact that after you have paid your deposit, and had your booking confirmed, you just log into "Manage my booking" and pay as much or as little as you can afford as often as you like but ensuring the total bill is paid 6 weeks prior to flying...
