We are just about to book a trip to Florida through Alex at Florida Holiday Planner, we have already paid deposits towards flights and cars via card and now that we are about to settle the balance we have been asked to pay via BACS. Has anyone else been asked to pay this way?
Alex has been very upfront and honest with everything so far, we have received all paperwork and flight references etc, so we have no reason to doubt that it will be fine, however I am worried about paying such a large amount via BACS and leaving ourselves without the protection a card payment would provide. Advice hugely appreciated! |

Personally I wouldn't - I value the protection a credit card offers in case of e.g. airline failure. Would you have been covered if you'd paid for Thomas Cook flights this way? I genuinely don't know.
If it's the credit card fees that are putting the retailer off, offer to pay something on top to pay by credit card (although it is illegal to charge extra). |

As long as you've paid your deposit on credit card, it doesn't matter how you pay your balance: you get the protection from your credit card for the whole cost of an item or service, even if you only pay for a part of it on the credit card. I've paid several holidays this way - deposit on credit card and balance by bank transfer.
I'm a new user on DIBB so I'm not allowed to post links to other websites, but if you Google "MSE credit card protection" you'll find a Martin Lewis article on Section 75 protection that confirms this. |
