Another thought about window pictures...

If you have a wide angle lens, or just want a smaller area of the window, actually press the lens up against the glass.

I understand you can get rubber rings to screw onto lenses for this purpose.

I used this idea a lot in Seaworld et al
Andy,

You seem to be a bit of an expert on the subject so i'm going to be a bit cheeky. I have just been on a course at work which has made me look at photography and videoing in a whole new light. (Back light compensation and changing shutter speeds were all double dutch to me before then). Anyway, my thoughts are towards a new camera - Is there any benefit in your opinion to a digital slr over something like the Ixus 800. Don't expect you to be the guru on all things digital but your opinion would be appreciated.

The Ixus 800 is a great camera.

The main benefit of an SLR is the choice of lenses. You can pick and screw on different options depending on what you are doing. For example, a nice 17mm wide angle will ensure you get a good shot of a Disney character even if it is stood on you. A 50mm lens will give a very natural eye-type look to anything you shoot. A 300mm zoom will get you a nice full frame of a bird without scaring it.

They are also much quicker on the finger to take pictures. I hate shutter lag.

Beyond that, they generally have more advance light metering, focus options and white balance options.

Hope this helps. AndyJ.

Anytime sir.

If I had a
£500 budget, I'd get a Canon 350d (or 400d shortly)
£1000 I'd get a Canon 30d.
£5000 a Canon 1ds Mk II

Andy, what would be the benefits of the 30d over the 350d as its double the price and on first looks they have roughly the same specs, ie pixels and features

Hi!

Ok, in no order...

Much better autofocus, especially in low light.
Build quality; Plastic vs Mag Alloy
More piccies in burst mode.
Higher ISO (Unless you hack the 350d firmware)

None of which, except the Autofocus of course, are a deal breaker really.
