ok all your lovely honest people
I drive a car through a work scheme, I love the car but it is really working out so expensive.
I have been looking at the website Cinch and have seen a couple of cars on there that I like and believe that if I get a loan through my bank or my mortgage bank the outgoings a month would be quite a bit cheaper. Anyway, the above is not the question. I have seen a Citroen C4 Cactus that I like the look of, it's a small car and one of the lower insurance grades. (I have many years no claims) Does anyone have/had this car? Would you recommend? would you recommend something else similar? All answers welcome Thank you |

I've had it as a hire car, so didn't really get to notice fuel consumption rates etc, but I was quite impressed with it, depsite its really rather awful name.
What do you drive? "Me I've got a BMW, and you?" Oh, I drive a cactus... Other person unable to answer as they are doubled over in fits of laughter It's a good car, it just needs a new name |

A rose by any other name ...
I do think people care about the name or they don’t . It’s a bit like fashion labels . Four wheels, engine , does what it says on the label and fits my needs has always mattered far more to me than it’s name and it wouldn’t even occur to me to ask what someone else drives. I do think the image of car brands matter more to more men than women though |

I agree - we have Dacia's. We love them, they aren't refined in any way, but they cost less to buy than an standard Range Rover loses when it drives off the forecourt
And as they have no refinements on them, there is absolutely nothing to go wrong so servicing and repairs are dirt cheap too (I've heard they have increased the comfort and "toy" level in the 2021 versions about to launched, but not changed the price) |

I have had two of them. The first one was a diesel the second petrol. Was going to buy a third one a couple of months ago but long story short something better but a bit older was in stock and grabbed.
I really enjoyed the cactus. It has nearly all the bells and whistles depending on the model. Satnav, reverse camera, blu-tooth, older version had their own jukebox. Mileage wise the diesel was giving me 57 mpg, the petrol 49mpg. Found my local citreon garage to be superb. Its not the most exciting car in the world but it was reliable. they have done away with the side bumpers on the C4, still on C3. Could care less about the name. I wouldn't hesitate to get another next time. |

Just remember that to keep the price down the not only compromise on user features, but also safety features as well. Watched a recent programme about Dacia as they were fully open that all of these compromises were part of their strategy. The main cost containment though was in standardised parts and limiting the choice so they can really keep the number of components to a minimum. So not cut quality, just cut variation.
Not saying Dacia aren't worth considering, but keep this in mind as well. As for people looking down on the name, just call it a C4 and no ones knows the difference unless they physically see which variant it is. If value is a key buying factor, I would also look at some of the Hyundai and Kia models. These have 5 or 7 year warranties with them and the do some decent crossover / small SUV's.
