Another vote for the Jolly Fisherman at Craster from me.

Beadnell just south of Seahouses has a lovely beach to walk along and a couple of nice pubs.

Also can recommend Ross Back Sands - if you find it there will be no one else there.

A trip to the Farne Islands is lovely (I prefer a calm day) but not sure if you can take your dog because of the bird life there.

We had a week in Northumberland in August 2020 and you could take the boat trip from Seahouses to see the seals and birds but you couldn’t disembark on the island due to COVID restrictions. If that changes don’t miss it, as seeing the puffins and Arctic terms up close on a previous holiday was one of the best things we’ve ever done.
A walk to the Duddo stones further inland and a ride on the Ford-Etal steam railway, with tea shops either end and the mill at Etal are also lovely.

I love Ford Village having stayed in the castle many times in the past - the snowdrops at this time of year are stunning in the grounds. Lady Waterford Hall in the village is worth a look in too. Etal has the only thatched pub in the county and is a pretty village.

The Battle of Flodden took place nearby and for those interested in history it is worth a short visit - it can be a very sober experience and brings chills to the spine. Ford Castle has an interesting history connected to Flodden and one of the rooms - King James Study - has amazing views across the Cheviots and is incredibly atmospheric. I spent many hours sitting on my own on the 3 foot thick window ledges looking out over the countryside (usually with a gllass of wine in hand) supposedly studying . Sadly the Castle isn't open to the general public.

Berwick isn't too far from Seahouses and it too is worth a visit and a walk around the town walls and along the river is a pleasant way to spend a day - the Border Bridge is very photogenic.

My daughter stayed at Ford Castle on a school trip (quite a few years ago).

I love Warkworth or Seahouses. I’d recommend Cragside and Rothbury for a day out and Alnwick Gardens / castle (I prefer the Garden) and the treehouse restaurant looks stunning although I’ve never managed to eat there.

We did the Farne Islands boat trip and my daughter was very seasick, so pick a calm day!

Further south we have Tynemouth pier / Priory and then fish and chips on the beach. Or a trip to St Mary’s Lighthouse, and the beautiful new Spanish City (expensive Fish n Chips, or they do afternoon tea or just a coffee and cake).

Another vote for Seahouses. Love it.
Really enjoyed our visits there, over to the Farne Islands to see the Puffins and other seabirds and the seals.
The castle was good for a visit, also Beadnell Bay and Craster.
Oh and up to Lindisfarne too, making sure not to get cut off by the tide whilst you're over there! Good memories - need to go back to those parts soon

Did you ever get to visit the nuclear shelter under the castle? Nice to know Northumberland County Council found somewhere to stay safe

If anyone is out and about in north Northumberland over the summer I have noticed that the Lady Waterford Hall will be free to visit
