Four digit phone number, ours was 2300 and the Elec Board was 2000. We got lots of irate callers wanting their cooker fixed!

We had relations in London and would often get the "lines to London are busy, please try later" message when trying to call them.

Ours was 200 then 4,5 and eventually 6 digits but my Mother still answered with just 200

My sisters number was 51007, they used to answer...51 James Bond. 🤣 this was when you used to say the number before hello. 🙂

LOL yes

I can still recall all our telephone numbers from years back but struggle to remember what I had for dinner yesterday.

I lived with my Nana when I was a child. She was the last house at the end of the lane. She firmly believed that the phone would not ring if someone else in the lane before her was on it as the signal would get blocked and her kettle would not boil at 6Pm because everyone else was using the leccy

My Dad answers with the phone number in Welsh if it isn’t a number he recognises. The cold callers all hang up!

Ours was in the lounge but I used to take it and sit on the stairs to call my girlfriend so mum, dad and brothers couldn't listen.

Ours was in the hall which was freezing in winter. We had a party line and my Mum was always telling the kids in the other house to hang up. We had a box for 2 old pennies that my Dad charged the neighbours per minute if they wanted to use it. Still remember the number - 8920 - good manners to say it when answering the phone. Couldn’t tell you any of the numbers I’ve had since I moved out and no idea of my mobile number as no one answers with their number now.
