So relieved, whats my rights
After many months of physical abuse at my work, they have agreed to redeploy me as they cannot keep me safe as Im continually being victimised, abused and physically assaulted by someone (work in childrens unit) (local council). This has a detrimental affect on my health (crohns) were Im constantly in a flare up.
What are my rights so that I know what to expect when I meet senior management and HR.

sorry I have no advice or experience but just wanted to say that I'm glad that you are finally getting something sorted out for yourself, your current situation sounds horrendous.

My god! This has really shocked me,how is anyone allowed to put someone through, that kind of hell,in the workplace!
I am absolutely staggered, that this goes on. I wish you all the luck & hope this all comes to an end for you Tracy x

TBH you should be seeking proper advice about this rather than on here. Not sure why you would put up with abuse at work for months, surely you had managers that could have intervened before now. Dont mean to sound harsh but we are all much more aware these days of Zero-tolerance of verbal and physical abuse at work places etc. Wishing you well though for your new placement xx

I'm guessing the abuse is from clients of your service rather than from colleagues?
Do you belong to a trade union? I think that is where I would start. Good luck. ETA - might be worth joining a union for public service workers quickly if not. |

Shirley your not being harsh with your advice unfortunately when you work with children who have experenced trauma etc the challenging behaviour is seen as part of the job, they do not recognise that when it becomes physical abuse they always look at it from the childs view and not the staffs. Just glad that Im now getting a move to pastures new.

Firstly, you have a right not to be physically abused at work. Secondly, you have a right to receive protection from your employer - this could be in the form of joint working, alarm/alert systems and, importantly, comprehensive training to defuse confrontational situations and where necessary restrain violent young people.
I would expect your employer to have detailed policies on these areas - if not, it is legitimate to ask, why not? What does your contract of employment say on these matters? |

My ex sister in law used to work with young people with severe mental problems and got abused all the time. Sadly it seems to be part of the job as there's no way to make them understand that what they're doing is wrong, she had to leave in the end.
Good luck to you OP, hope the redeployment solves the problem, I'm so grateful people do the job you do, you must be very strong x |

The company who employs you and your line managers have a duty of care for you as an employee, I'm not an expert but I have working knowledge of this subject, so my advise would be to get proper advice from someone with specialist knowledge of this subject i.e. an employment law solicitor. That way you will have the full facts before you walk into the meeting. Best of luck
