Florida 2019 - Tell Me This Isn't The Last Time - Day 18 - VB, US & Teak Neighbourhood Grill

The index is here.

Tuesday 13th August 2019

We have a couple of options for today; it’s either US/IOA or AK where we have FPs for Lion King, Kilimanjaro Safari and Expedition Everest. Dinner was at Hard Rock Café.

We got up a little later than usual and had breakfast at the villa; DDs wanted to chill so DW suggested we went to Volcano Bay as its new to us. The drive from the villa to Volcano Bay was relatively good as much as the i4 will allow, just seems to be busier each time we visit.

Whilst the tickets are included in the US/IOA tickets, it cost $26 (£21.14) for parking and $16 (£13.28) for a locker; so, $42 before a toe was dipped in any water. We picked up our tapi-tapi watches and headed to find a spot. DW and DDs really liked the park; they enjoyed the rides and had a lot of fun. I’m not sure that the tapi-tapi works too well as you can reserve a time for a ride but you can’t wait in line for any other big ride; just seems weird to have a FP line but not a standby?

We brought snacks from home for lunch and DW/DDs went on a lot of the rides, then the Floridian thing happened. Lightning was forecasted and they closed all of the rides; we waited about 30 mins but there was no opening in sight so we showered and decided to go to US.

For Volcano Bay, you park in the US garage and catch a bus across, so the car was parked for US/IOA. As you enter City Walk, I’ve always wanted to play at the mini golf as it looks really good; we’ve never made it on any previous trip and didn’t do it on this one, maybe next time?

I hadn’t had my mandatory Cinnabon on this holiday so had to stop on the way to US.

I could easily eat them all day; they take me back to when we used to visit US bases when we lived in Germany, so it’s the smell that hits you first then the fantastic memories when DDs were young.

We headed for US and onto the Mummy.

We love the Mummy, the wait time said 30 mins but we got through the first time in 10 mins so went back on which took another 10. Next up was Escape from Gringotts; this had a 45 mins wait time……which turned out to be an hour and a half and the longest wait on the whole holiday. Still we love this ride and glad we stayed for it.

It was getting towards late afternoon and we were feeling hungry; as we were up by US, we decided to go to Teak Neighbourhood Grill. On the way out of US it started absolutely pouring down so we had to run in between shops and coverings so we didn’t get soaked. It was a bit of fun darting from spot to spot.

It was quite quiet when we got there, the server was really nice and sat us in a good spot; DW wanted to come here on the last trip but we didn’t; however, first impression was this was the kind of place we’d love. Not that we tried, but they have a Teak challenge.

With a wall of fame

And a wall of shame

For starters, we shared the Mediterranean Trio, which was really tasty.

Then for mains, I had the Drunken Monk and a Yeungling; DD2 had chicken wings with garlic herb and Parmesan dips with a coke; DW had the Kobe burger with a Coors lite and DD1 had the waffle burger with a coke.

The burgers were incredible; so juicy and tasty and lots of them The cost was $91.42 (£75.84) and although it’s a little out of the way, it’s definitely on the plan for next time already.

We popped into Wawa for some fuel and sweets and then chilled back at the villa.

It was another enjoyable day; DW and DDs liked Volcano Bay, we had a quick trip to US and then a fantastic meal at Teaks.

Tomorrow is Cat Café day, then to MK in the afternoon where we have FPs for Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh and Big Thunder with an ADR at Tony Town before watching the fireworks. Day 19 can be found here

It’s good to be able to switch plans when the weather goes awry. Teak is a must do for us every trip - you can also ask for the secret menu. Delicious

Another Teak fan here too. Can't wait to take my eldest DGS there, he loves burgers.
