road trip advice
going to florida next sept for 16 days. the more i look at disneys cancellations the more i dont want to spend £900 on a couple of tickets.
we have universal passes so it got me thinking. Do 3 nights universal at the start and end of the holiday and have a 10 day road trip. love the look of sarasota and the west coast so will head over that way. would like to go to the keys for 4 days and looked at driving to the ferry terminal at either fort myers or marco island and getting the ferry to the keys. rather than parking the hire car up for 4 days and paying parking and hire fees is there an office for a hire company nearby where you can end your hire then pick up a new hire when you arrive back Edited at 11:05 AM. |

We love the west coast and like Naples (we stay at The Cove), Sanibel/Captiva, Anna Maria Island.

Alamo has an office on S. Roosevelt that we've used several times but appears as though it is temporarily closed. The only other rental companies I'm aware of are at the airport

We've done an Orlando/Key West road trip before stopping off at Fort Lauderdale on the way down and Naples on the way back, the drive through the Keys is amazing and not to be missed, the longest bit was from Key West to Naples at 5 hours plus stops.

The drive to the Keys is the best bit of a road trip around Florida - is there any reason that you're wanting to miss it out?

I also agree that the drive down to Key West is lovely. We have gone down the right hand side, clipped Miami then stayed overnight on Key Largo (we stopped at the tourist office just as you get onto the Island and they found us a lovely cheap room for the night), then drove down to Key West they next day, then back via Naples, where we again stayed a night.
I would also include St Augustine if you havn't been before on a road trip as its lovely |
