Ladies... Shorts in New York in August

We are off to New York in just under 2 weeks for a few days before florida and wondering what the ladies wear. 3/4 shorts (knee length)? Short denim shorts (not hot pants!)? Dont want to be too hot but also don't want to look out of place. We aren't doing anything fancy/dressy just sightseeing and eating in diner type places.

Hi, I wore shorts (just above knee) last July with a nice top and that was fine. People in all sorts of clothes from suits to hot pants. It was very hot so wear what you are most comfortable in and definitely a comfortable pair of sandals/ shoes, lots and lots of walking I loved New York, you will have a great time!

We went for 10 days last August and the weather was beautiful! Really hot but not at all muggy. I wore cropped trousers and vest tops because I felt better going in and out of shops and restaurants with crops on, but there were plenty of shorts around. I'm very envious, it was one of our best holidays ever! Walking the highline, visiting the outdoor pools, Mets game, shark boat tour, Coney Island... it was amazing and even though we've been to Florida several times, our summer visit to NY is hard to beat. We went last August and I wore shorts and strappy tops. Was hot! You'll definitely need comfy shoes, we walked miles!

I go on Friday and all I am taking is shorts.

I didnt like wearing shorts in the City, so I wore lightweight 3/4 trousers with a vest top,
I too wouldnt have felt right in some of the shops there with just shorts on.
Its just a personal thing. Hubby did though .

Same when I go to Florida, If I go to Mall at millenia or florida mall I wear 3/4 or longer shorts.

We go in 17 days and I am definitely planning on wearing shorts. Haven't had a chance to wear them yet this summer so can't wait.
