We have neither a utility room or a garage and therefore the washing machine and the dishwasher are in the kitchen. I have hidden them though. They are fitted behind cupboard doors so you’d never know we had either.

Off topic but Gryff in Scotland has a clothes horse. I have a clothes horse in Essex but my northern daughter in law and my friend from Liverpool have maidens. So at what point does it change back?

We don't have a utility room currently and I have the washer, the drier and the dishwasher in the kitchen which is also where we eat. Despite buying the quietest models I could we still have to pause the washer and drier if they are running when we have a meal, so I would put the washer in the garage and a dishwasher in. It will also be easier moving the washing around!

Why have both. Just have one. Glasses wouldn't survive well in a washing machine, so pants in the dishwasher it is !

Do you have much counter space? You could always get a countertop dishwasher. Then you could have both!

If you have room in the garage for a washing machine to go with the tumble dryer already in there then I would say dishwasher in the kitchen, washing machine in the garage. But assume you may need additional plumbing maybe in the garage.

Easier to move the washing from the machine to the dryer in the garage (washing all in one place) and the dishes in the kitchen go straight into the dishwasher then away and into the kitchen cupboards.

Both husband and son have manual jobs and come home dirty every day. Son also goes to the gym every night and there are 4 of us showering and bathing every day and they won’t reuse towels I know I am a bit over fussy about washing separating colours.

I remember my mum doing the washing once a week and she used a mangle. It did take her all day though.
But would they know if you just hung the towels up or put them in the airing cupboard? If they want clean towels every day they can sort it out.

Lights and darks need separating but on a cool wash it shouldnt be a problem.
