How does this itinerary sound?
Hi all
Toying with the idea of visiting the West Coast next summer (August as we are tied to school holidays). Have had a quote from Travelbag with the following itinerary: San Fran for 3 nights Monterey for 2 nights Apple Farm San Luis for 1 night Santa Barbara for 2 nights Anaheim for 3 nights Los Angeles for 3 nights We wanted to see the sights in San Fran & LA, plus do Universal in LA and Disney in Anaheim. Seasoned West Coast holidayers - what do you think of this itinerary - does it give us enough time to do everything? Thanks in advance

Only having done a coach trip to the west coast I’m no expert but much preferred San Diego to Los Angeles (in fact we did Anaheim and just half a day in LA...

All sounds fairly good, our only difference would be cut the overall time in LA area. Perhaps add a couple of nights in yosemite or San Diego . Bur generally good and will be a great holiday . In Monterey please go whale watching if you can, highlight of our last 2 trip. And don't forget aquarium,17 mile dr, Carmel and pebble beach for a bite to eat.

We can spend weeks in LA with loads to do. Too many go and see the tourist areas like Hollywood and take their impression of LA from that. LA is so much more.
Agenda looks fine to me for what you are looking to do. The stops look in sensible places in general. The only one you could skip is San Luis with a slightly longer day into Santa Barbara as you then have 2 nights there anyway. 2 nights Monterrey should be more than enough. Assuming you are leaving San Fran in the afternoon then an evening in Carmel, followed by a day doing things in and around Monterrey is enough for most. On the LA and Anaheim side, you could switch them around to they are in a geographical order. Assume Disney is a stop the night before, two park days and then a night before heading off the next day? |

Thank you! Not sure we want to add more places, although Yosemite & San Diego look great. We did a road trip to Vancouver and the Rockies this year and the lesson learnt from there is to not visit soooo many places!

Thank you! I popped the San Luis stop in after the Rockies this year - the hubby didn't enjoy the long driving that we did a few days!

Looks good to me
Like another poster above said there really is lots to do in LA if you scratch update the tourist veneer (same as London really ) from great Ice Hockey to graveyard visits to mountain hikes/drives - even if the traffic is kind day trips to Lake Arrowhead, the aeroplane graveyard at Victorville, and beautiful Laguna - I have done all of these on my last visit and didn’t really get any horrendous traffic (used satellite radio and traffic news to avoid bottlenecks ) Oh I nearly forgot- one of my favourites being a short drive to Paradise Cove Malibu - great crab cakes at their cafe - home to many many famous Hollywood movies and TV shows. Walk the beach and pier and marvel at where the extremely rich and famous have their beach houses Edited at 08:41 AM. |

Excited about Disney

absolutely agree. LA we did one afternooon - WB studios and hollywood boulevard that was enough for us. Our must-do
San Fran - alcatraz night tour (book in advance), boudin bakery, sealions fisherman's wharf, cable cars and street cars, Disney Family Museum, Golden Gate Bridge and park Monterey - aquarium, 17 mile drive, cannery row *** please visit and stay in Carmel we stayed at the Candle Light Inn amazing and ate at forge in the forest, brilliant SLO - not heard of apple farm but we stayed at the madonna inn in the rock bottom room, highly recommended (we went to Yosemite and Kings Canyon / Sequoia National Park) Anaheim - for Disney we did one night in the Disneyland Hotel, expensive the rest of the time we stayed at Pepper Tree Hotel Anaheim great and great price but 10/15 mins lyft/uber. For convenience stay on harbour boulevard if not onsite. Hope this helps |
