I know I must sound like a bully at times, but I always try to “control” this type of situation - after all I’m paying so it’s my “shout”. Ordering the starters first is a good idea and I wait until I’ve finished my main before ordering dessert and coffee. I don’t like my coffee served with my starter - one of them is bound to go cold.

If I want a fast meal I’d go to McD !

Maybe that we tend to eat away from the main drag and yes in the chains at times we never have an issue ordering in stages
We always say yes we are ready to order our appetisers but can you leave the menu as we are not sure about the next never have a problem even have them ask if we want the GdKs order brought out as soon as it's ready which we usually do say yes that's great

Disney ADRs are based on turning the table around in 45 min to 1h. Americans hate slow service and will vocally moan if service is slow. It can be hard for servers to judge on times how you want it paced. A good tip above it to order Apps first or just a, drink then order the main

Putting the bill on the table before you ask is considered good service in the US. It doesn’t mean you have to rush, just that you don’t have to flag someone down afterwards.

Exactly, I hated the spending 15 minutes trying to catch the servers eye in the UK when we wanted the bill.

Yes, I wish UK servers would do it. I hate being in a restaurant trying to catch the server's eye to ask for the bill.

We only had an appetizer once in the 3 weeks we were there, and that was at Disney's Sanaa - plates cleared from that before they brought the mains so no problem there. Everywhere else we would tend to order main and drink, then when the mains were finished they would bring over the dessert menu so no overlap there.

I much prefer how they bring you the bill whilst you are eating dessert, means you can get the payment sorted and not be waiting at the end for a bill (like we do in the UK).

When I was there last month and also last year I ordered one course at a time and it worked fine. I wasn't rushed, was able to eat my meal in my own time.

Taking empty plates away as each diner finishes, rather than waiting until everyone has finished, is also considered good service in the US.

Americans don’t like empty dirty plates left on the table in front of them.

It didn't used to be but you are right that people here seem to prefer it here now.
