Back to the beaches (maybe)
So, what started this one?
Most trips seem to have something that starts the whole ball of wax rolling. This one was inspired by a heart attack in January that left me facing a double coronary artery bypass graft. Always the optimist, I decided that this was the perfect reason and time to plan a family holiday. Of course, no plan is ever that simple! 😊 Medical Notes The bypass. That’s been the easiest part of the medical side ironically. Into the Royal Brompton, under the anaesthetic and sent home five days later. Piece of cake. That was swiftly followed by: Infection of the wound site, 10 weeks in hospital getting over it followed by plastic surgery and anaphylactic shock as a result of a platelet transfusion. The cast Julie, 56 – the glue that keeps us all together, the (generally) calm voice of reason that says ‘Do you really want to do that?’. IT Project Manager Elizabeth, 26 – Search Engine of Doom (t.m.) – if she can’t find it, it doesn’t exist. IT tester Andrew and Bruce, 24 – possibly the most non-identical twins ever. Students. Me, John, 58 – logistics, plans, spreadsheets and bright ideas. IT Contractor. Photographs may follow but I wouldn’t hold your breath. So far. So there we are, our first family holidays as a full group in 5 years. We managed to get the schedule narrowed down to leaving on September 9th, coming back 10 days later. That’s the easy bit – UC Gatwick to MCO with Virgin, Portofino Bay for the first three days, 3-day park to park passes and a full-sized SUV booked. It’s a bit of a shock to put the offspring on the list of drivers. I can remember when they were content just to be loaded into the back. Now for somewhere to stay for the rest of the trip. The where part was easy, somewhere near Siesta Key (remember this for later reference), at least 4 bedrooms, with its own pool and bbq. We passed that to Elizabeth and she came up with… homeaway/p746529vb#p5frhotos . That’s my girl. The only downside has been trying to find a hardtop Mustang to hire for Andy. They seem rarer than rocking horse droppings and only available to the elderly (over 25s). In the end we gave up on that and decided this would be a suitable fun substitute takeaimgunrange/machine-gun-saturdays/. As a bribe Julie and Elizabeth get to go shopping on their own. Oh yes, the one little extra, the cherry on the cake, the Red Tide of Sarasota. The way this year has gone so far, people might want to avoid our flights as well……
