If you have bought 14-day or 21-day Disney Ultimate tickets, then you get Memory Maker for free automatically. All you have to do is link the tickets to your MyDisneyExperience account and that's it.

Once you enter the parks, you scan your tickets after getting your photo taken and this links the photos to your MyDisneyExperience account (the one you linked your tickets to). You scan your tickets like you scanned your MagicBands. Then, later, you can view and download your photos from the Photopass section of MyDisneyExperience.

The only difference between the tickets and MagicBands is that the MagicBands will (most of the time) automatically link ride photos to your MDE account and will also link a short ride video to your account if you go on Tower of Terror or Seven Dwarf Mine Train. You don't get the ride videos if you only have tickets.

Great explanation and exceptional Disney/Orlando knowledge too, Nimbus. Well played.
