Can you book flydrive but not take the car?

Years ago I remember this question coming up frequently but I can't see anything recent about it...

If I was to book a flydrive with Virgin but only use the flights would I get charged anything/penalised for not taking the car?

Flights for next year are coming in at �770 each (premium return) which I didn't think was too bad, plus I would only need to put down a �350 deposit. The flight itself on VA right now is over �1100 each!

Do people still do this or is there something I'm missing? Don't want to end up with extra costs!

We have done it several times without any problems at all.

Book it then cancel the car. We did with VH and even got a bit of cash back. Not much, but I wasn't expecting anything for a 'free' car booking

Thanks for this post I was wondering this also - I did book a flydrive over 5 years ago and did not collect the car with no penalty whatsoever. Do you know if the same applies in regards to British Airways... ?

I called virgin, they reduced the car hire to one day only as I was told it couldn�t be removed completely. I was given 2 adult entries in to the Vroom in its place. Nothing was said about not collecting the car. I�m sure with the prices Virgin charge for the insurance Alamo expect a % if the cars to be uncollected.

With BA I have booked a car for just 1 day to trigger the fly-drive deal and then not picked it up. The flights were cheaper and the 1 day car only added �3 on to them.

If booking with BA, you need to read the Avis small print - i recall reading a no show fee if the car is not collected.

You could collect the car and drive out of the car park and straight back in to the returns entrance to avoid a penalty

We flew with ba last year and didn't pick up the car - never heard a thing!
