Just curious. As a USA city break how many days do you generally spend at these locations given the journey time?

That is a difficult question as I don’t know how your family vacations in a city.

We are a family of 2 adults plus boys of 17 and 13. We visit Military stuff, sights, landmarks etc.

This would be our estimates on cities that we have actually experienced.

San Francisco.. 3 full days.
Monterey.. 2 full days
LA .. Never again, but depends on how you like theme parks.
San Diego.. 5 full days
Orlando.. 3 weeks
Pensacola.. 2 full days
Destin 3 full days
Boston.. 4 full days
New York.. 5 full days
Washington DC.. 3 full days
Dayton OH.. 3 full days (inc USAF Museum)
New Orleans.. 3 full days.

It really is subjective, but we tend to hit several, one after the other in order to justify the long haul journey.. I.e, Boston-New York, Dayton, Orlando- Naples in a single trip.

I am in the minority but I am not a fan of Boston! Loved San Diego though!
I didnt like it either but I am not a fan of cities in general I will visit again as my sister lives there but only for that reason !

Thanks for that. It's just the 2 of us and we are not too stressed with long haul travel. We are considering LAs Vegas for 5 days.
