Ok, I get the emotive response, the frustration and annoyance.
But... We can legally travel abroad now (albeit to select destinations) and have been able to for weeks at this level of restriction easing. We know 100% that the USA and the UK are talking about a travel corridor, in fact there is a suggestion that we are going to work together for a plan for a number of covid related matters going forwards. We didn't have any comment on this before and this was announced when the major players knew exactly what they were going to be announcing today, so that has to be a positive, surely. We are in a better place this week in terms of going than we were this time last week, that is the truth of the matter. Make your plans, be ready to go because I would say there is a pretty good chance that any of us going might be doing so at (comparably) short notice. |

Sorry, but we have had 15 months of this and everyone has seen how quickly the governments change their mind (or dont in some cases).
The UK is testing a lot of the population which has positive benefits but also very negative effects. The negative is that it is making the UK look like the variant capital. Other countries are just masking over their cases and manipulating figures. This means the chances of borders opening to the UK get slimmer. Our death rate is extremely low now, so is testing relevant now? Why is everyone still so desperate to get tested, the answers vary, but from family we know, its because those on furlough get more pay when they get a positive test (many companies around here give a full 100% pay when covid positive). Of course there are different reasons, but i am just pointing out a huge flaw. The media/government publish new things on purpose and you have to wander why. This weekend they publish that almost a third of those who died of the new variant of covid were fully vaccinated. So 2 thirds either had one jab or none. Using those figures, whats the point in vaccinations? Because in a few weeks they will be telling us a booster is now available and lockdown cant finish until we all get it. This post will soon be turning 6 months old, 6 months ago we had a Aug 21 Disney holiday booked. I was positive then, but the only thing I am now positive about is that I will not be travelling until this is completely settled and I know I can get excited about getting away, rather than stressed. You only have to watch the news to see that a huge percentage of the population really dont care anymore and just want to get on with life.

I've dodged all unlocking news over the weekend, too much of it isn't healthy. Since last year this has been a precarious, on the brink of cancelling affair. To have come this far without being dead in the water is something to be positive about in of itself.
We're still in there people, if the Indian variant stops driving numbers up and the young'uns turn out for vaccination, then we might still be on. The airline industry are ramping up the pressure. If we don't go in august then we'll probably look at 2022.

Also lost confidence in a August Holiday.
Government have made a mess of this so I'm moving to next year. Not enjoyed the stress of not knowing if it would go ahead, and the pre flight testing process would be stressful as well. It's crap as we have been looking forward to this for over a year.

I’m still sitting on the fence! I am currently 1 hour 30 mins into a phone call to BA as my MCO - MIA flights have just been cancelled and they rebooked me onto a flight that was too late for the connection home 😫
I will be clinging on to my booking (and to ‘hope’) for dear life as I am desperate to not only get back to Disney but to go with all my boys and this is the last time that can happen before they are all working and we can’t coordinate time off together for 4 weeks. I do think that the ending of all restrictions will be delayed up to 4 weeks. I do think that a UK/US corridor will be announced but I think it will be announced mid July at the earliest to start 19th a July at the earliest and even then it will be made difficult to travel so exclude many families. Having said all that, I will be going as soon as I am allowed and have back up October flights booked, followed by December, followed by Jan (no kids) and will keep rebooking until it happens - glass half full/dogged determination, call it what you will 😂 |

Won't be able to go next year due to family commitments, it was supposed to be our honeymoon so it is either this year or not at all.
Not looking good at all, final payment due 8th July so holding out until then. |

Booking my ADRs next week. I lost my spreadsheet from the last 2 cancelled trips, so I can't remember what I had booked 😩
So when we eventually get to go, I know I want to do Le Cellier. What other places do August Dibbers recommend? I'm vegan if that helps 😂 |

As you said, you havent watched the news over the weekend. Well the curve is how it went in October, with figures higher than they were in the first lockdown.
The UK have had double the number of new cases in the last 7 days compared to France, and 4 times the number of Germany. So what do you think that is going to tell the world Once manipulated, the UKs figures for the last week are worst than most of Europe and the USA for the direction they are heading. Ours are going up. (but our death rate is low, which to me is the key thing to look at)

and this I agree with, what I don't understand is where the Government / Press get their figures from which is supposedly suggesting huge support for an extension etc.
The media needs to be brought to account with regards to printing and releasing utter garbage and scare stories. In these times there should be only factual numbers and statements published not constant BS! |
