At the end of the day, Laminate is designed for DIY. Floorlayers need to earn a living, so with the £800 you would get a guarantee and a professional finish. What price did the guy quote to fit it? A floorlayer would have prepped and advised on the level of floor also. Also, a lot of laminates click system is awful, at the end of the day you get what you pay for.

So what was the sq meterage? & areas?
£800 for 6 hours or less work. No prep work was required. Just a case of cutting the boards and clicking together correctly.
The other quotes were around half that

I laid the boards done (uncut) to get an idea of what it would look like and it took 30 minutes to lay 20 boards.

It is not laminate flooring, but LVT, designed to click together

UPDATE

left a message about the flooring, he rang twice and left messages. Second one was from a private number and he sounded like he had been drinking. (not an issue usually)
He turned up an hour earlier than he said this morning. Told me he had never had a complaint in 40 years and no one had not paid before.
I pointed out some of the issues and he tried to tell me that it would be impossible to click it together.

He then said he would want to see it when re done and will revisit payment. apparently his wife's sister is a solicitor.
