Shocking Gas and Electric costs

Don’t know if I’ve missed something but we’re at end of our annual contract and for us to renew with them is an additional £100 per month. Not aware as why energy prices were drastically higher this year.
So if I stay with them another year it’s £211 per month or if I switch to variable it’s £125 per month.
Always thought that variable was the most expensive tariff to be on and to avoid. Looks like I’ll have to give it a shot

I’m in the process of changing ours, we were paying £150 and they wanted to increase it to £182. I have switched to £114 a month, prices have gone up recently and I am aware that we might be charged more at some point but at this with this reduction I can save the extra in case we need it

It's for 2 reasons.

Firstly the wholesale cost of energy has gone through the roof due to shortages etc.
Secondly, the government has made the energy companies put a price cap on so we're not actually covering the cost of the energy at all.

Plus, I recently discovered that those of us that pay our DD one time every month are subsidising people who can't pay and so we're holding the debt up on behalf of companies. Mine recently tried to increase my DD even though I was in massive credit and I think it's to cover that and the rising costs.

My supplier has just gone bust so I am waiting to see when I can switch but not looking forward to those projections! We have a hot tub and it costs a fortune already. Plus, just bought a plug in hybrid!

My son just sent me a message to check we were fixed.(We just did it). He works in IT for compare the meerkat and said their site has imploded.

Apparently there's been an infrastructure failure in France and price of energy has gone through the roof. Everyone has pulled their tariffs because they're going to be bleeding money as a result.

There was a fire in Ashford where the main link from France comes in to, this is cheap electricity form French nuclear power stations. This link is down for I think a week or so then running at 50% capacity until March 22

If you think domestic electricity prices are bad you should try negotiating business ones, did a three year fix nearly two years ago which was a 20% increase on my previous on, my renewal contract now is an over 25% increase this time round so that's nearly 50% increase in about four years. Putting that into context I run a pub and restaurant and my electricity bill is already about 5.5k a quarter and I cook on LPG and my heating is oil fired so those costs are not even included. With the way pub overheads and wages are going, once the vat rate goes back to normal next year I have a feeling going out for a drink or meal is going to get considerably more expensive for all of us !

I saw this this morning, we’d just been offered a fix with our provider, so I hit the accept button pdq this morning, didn’t think there was any point in shopping around, we pay @£80 per month x

This country is in a bit of mess due to green policies.

To be fair the green party now support nuclear power stations problem is that they take 10 years to build. They are anti solar as these can be incredibly dangerous, remove farm land and building them is very ungreen
