Because we didn't want to do the subway, we got the Hop on Hop off bus, loved it. We really did get our monies worth and they did a night time bus trip over the Brooklyn bridge so that on the way back you could see Manhattan all lit up. We got a three day pass and used them every day. With the commentary you really learn a lot and obviously see a lot coz your not underground.
We used to do a lot of just stopping at Delis for breakfast, they were amazing with a fantastic choice and relatively cheap.

We went in August 2016 with my kids 16/14/11.
It was very hot(35 degrees) and humid which did limit what we did in the end (too hot to walk the highline and spend much time in central park). However, hightlights for all of us were a speedboat trip on the Shark/Beast, (with loud music and our guide squirting us with a giant water pistol) and the Ride. Also, they have an event every Saturday where they close Park Avenue for traffic, and they have lots of free stuff to do/try, from bike hire, zip lining to sno cones. www1.nyc.gov/html/dot/summer...ome/home.shtml |

We really enjoyed the twilight cruise too, the highlight of our trip.
Intrepid, central park, Empire state and crown tickets for the top of the Statue of Liberty would be on any first timers list. The real joy is just walking around. As said above, it really is one big movie set Make sure to make the most of it. The walk to the Intrepid from our Times Square hotel was an enjoyable stroll and the kids played in a little park between some houses that was straight outta sesame street
