Away from Fisherman’s Wharf most places had more business travellers than leisure tourists so you’d see a lot of suits in the bars. The Cheescake Factory on Union Square was full of tourists and it made me laugh because every second person there was in a “San Francisco” hoodie or long sleeve T-shirt. I think a lot of tourists get caught out by the cool weather and have to dash into one of the souvenir shops for a hoodie.
That was us too! DH bought a nice lightweight jacket and I bought another SF hoody to wear over the top of my hoody!

Alcatraz was absolutely freezing - we went in August and did the night tour. Woolly hats, scarves and gloves would also be my recommendation.

We did that tour in August too and I’ll never forget the cold. I think it was Mark Twain who said the coldest winter he ever experienced was summer in San Francisco!

The bay fog is often at its worst in July/August, but yes, layers at any time. SF is quite capable of multiple seasons in the same day.

We were there last may and it was lovely. Shorts and t-shirts everyday. We were so lucky, very little fog or wind

Even though it can be cold use sun cream as well. I had a coat and scarf on and still managed to catch too much sun.

I also have a SF hoodie as well.

My friend is flying back today funnily enough, in his pictures he’s in jeans and hoodies, his wife in shorts and tee shirts ( I think she was hoping for a tan)

This is good information as we will be in SF from the 28th June.
