Argentina: Summer In Winter - Spring 2019: Day 3 Iguazu Falls Again
A great night's sleep - I woke up at 6.10am! I had a shower before getting O up. Once ready we went to the hotel next door for breakfast - a buffet. For less than 4 euros each, it was a bargain! I had coffee, orange juice, toast and cheese and a muffin. O ate his own weight in croissants and juice! We met up with Erik at 7.45am as agreed and he drove us to the Falls. We got 50% off today do it was 700 pesos - about 17 euros. We went straight to the train station to get a ticket for the train upto the top point. We were in luck and got one for the next train 20 minutes later. The train was a narrow gauge one that took about 20 minutes to climb up to the station for our next stop - Devil's Throat. Thankfully it wasn't packed - unlike some we saw later in the day! To get to the Devil's Throat waterfalls was about a 20 minute walk along a metal walkway mainly over the river. It was fairly busy as there were a lot of tour groups. The first view of them - at this stage we were dry but soon realised that we needed to put our raincoats on! The pictures don't do it justice. The noise was immense! O had researched the statistics and the average water fall is 1800 cubic metres/s (less than Niagara though even though Niagara is smaller!) It really was a sight (and sound) to behold! The power of the water was amazing! We stayed for a good 30 minutes - thankful to have experienced it and that the incoming storm had not yet hit as the walkway back was very exposed. Once back at the station we got the train back down to the bottom station - the train was even emptier. I had heard that later in the day it got packed. On the walk back to the station we saw some wildlife - this butterfly was amazing - especially as it didn't move do we could take photos! The bird was also used to posing for photos! There was a buffet restaurant. It was fairly expensive at 700 pesos (about 17 euros) but as we wouldn't be having any of the meat skillets they offered to reduce it to 500 pesos - about 13 euros. It was actually really nice - we both had rice with a tomato sauce, lots of differences veggies, oven roasted potatoes and I also had some salad. We had two big plates each and finished off with some fruit! We then headed back yo the Lower Trail as it was our favourite one as it gave a good overview of the Falls. It was also fairly quiet - due to the incoming storm perhaps! Even some of coati had made it up here! We continued around - stopping and taking in the view! By the last stop though we could feel that the wind had changed. We headed on down and the heavens opened! Thankfully we had put our waterproof jackets on but even so we got wet. You can't really see how much it was raining but believe me it was heavy! We whatapped Erik and then grabbed a delicious dulce de leche ice cream! We got even wetter making a run to the car - my shorts and shoes were soaked ! The temperature was down to 18C - after 38C yesterday! On the drive back there was a fallen tree blocking the road. The forest rangers, police and fire engine all came to deal with it - this took about 40 minutes. I was pretty cold in my wet clothes. Back at the apartment, there had been a power cut (it was all over town and not unusual. There had been a big leak in my bedroom (through the window) so Erik came and dealt with that (there was no mop otherwise I would have done it myself). Somehow both O and I fell asleep - no idea how long for (1 or 2 hours? ). It was past 7.30pm and neither of us could face finding somewhere to eat so we went to the local convenience store. We got bread, cheese and crisps - a very yellow meal but it did its job! I wrote up my report from Sunday as the electricity (and therefore wifi) was back on. It took me a while to fall asleep -probably down to the earlier nap! Edited at 10:13 AM. |

Those falls are spectacular, my DD would love all the wildlife too. I love your butterfly photo. That was good of them to reduce the buffet price as you were not eating any meat 😀 . What a storm though, how quickly the weather changed. We are visiting Vietnam this summer, and it will be the same there, hot and humid but huge downpours

The wildlike has been fab! Though the butterfly picture was one of O’s ( got to love the airdrop option between iphones!)
I remember the rain in HK - but here it rained and was then cold! You will be fine in Vietnam!
