Timeshare Travel Insurance

Hi. Has anyone here taken out timeshare travel insurance? Who would you recommend? I’m hoping I can buy an add on policy just to cover the timeshare part as I’m quite happy with our current insurer for the rest of our trips but I’m not sure if this is possible.

I've never heard of it. We just have an annual policy, it's pretty comprehensive as we upped it when we were worried about my parents' health.

What does timeshare insurance give you that travel insurance doesn't?

If your holiday is cancelled it covers things such as refunds on your dues for the points lost and a percentage of the buy in cost. DVC offer it through Travelex but only for US residents.

Ah ok thanks. I think if I was in that position with the points in holding, I'd be trying to rent them at a bargain price to be honest, rather than paying out more money on insurance.

I have heard of DVC being really reasonable when people have had to cancel for horrible reasons but have no personal experience of that.

I used the DVC one with Travelex for many years. Good value.
Sadly they ditched everybody apart from US and Canadian citizens.

If you have exchanged through RCI then you can buy your time protection through them

It’s just straight DVC points at the moment Tapley.

I just rely on my normal travel insurance with Nationwide.

Bottom line was the Travelex policy wouldn't replace your Points. What it did do was refund you the annual dues pertaining to the number of Points you would lose on that particular vacation. Not a great deal but for circa $80+ a year it wasn't bad.
