Travellers Cheques

Help! Having problems exchanging travellers cheques. We were able to do this at Guest Services in Disney two years ago on our last visit, but they’re now saying they don’t exchange for cash only accept them in payment for food / items. As we’re not always spending in the parks, we’re trying to find somewhere we can exchange for cash. Husband currently at one of the banks on the American Express website listed as an exchange point but even they’re saying they don’t exchange for cash anymore! Is there anywhere we can go to exchange? We’re staying in Haines City. TIA

You can use them to spend in Walmart. Not ideal, but maybe a small purchase and the change in Cash ?

We had used them to spend in Publix and got change back in cash but ideally wanted to change up more than $100. Have just managed to exchange in Bank of America but it did take twenty minutes for the cashier to check the manual to see how to do it as they’ve not exchanged them for such a long time. Guess this is the last time we bring T-Cheques!

Last time I went took travellers Cheques and Revolut card, it was such a pain with the TC we decided never ever again, the card worked so well and easily, and every time I paid on the card I would then block it (on the App) just incase someone had cloned my details and tried to use it.

We changed TCs at our Disney hotel last trip (2 years ago). I want to take them again but I’m starting to think they will be hard to change.

I’m really not keen on Revolut etc so not sure what to do.

We prefer to buy dollars in advance rather than use a credit / debit card as we like to change some each payday in the months before we travel.

It seems things have changed into years as even some banks are no longer accepting them. It is still possible to use them to buy things at Disney and in other locations such as supermarkets, it’s just really tricky finding somewhere to exchange them into cash. Even after all the problems we’ve had this trip, I still prefer the security of having travellers cheques but just need to aware to use them as currency rather than waiting until your actual cash is running low!

Publix will change a TC upto $500 (without having to buy anything), at no charge, if you go to their customer service desk. You will need ID. I used to use it to get cash over several days, but I now just go and get $500 at a time.

We did ask in Publix but they said they only accept them when buying something, then give you the change in cash.

Can you find the cheapest item at Disney and change it that way?
