Have flown in/out of Miami 4 times - each time because of price. Not a fan of the area or the airport but we’ve never had any issues or delays there. We normally fly in, drive up to Deerfield beach and head to Orlando the next day, we’ve saved over £1000 each time compared to direct flights. So yes, for us it’s worth it and to be honest it’s a pretty easy drive up for us.

We’re flying into Tampa and out of Fort Lauderdale in October. Cost us £1900 with a Tahoe clsss car with Ba for 4 of us.

we have not tried it yet but are due to this summer. Just another point to consider - for us it was a little cheaper but most importantly, the miami flight departs from heathrow which is whole lot easier for us to get to and from than gatwick. we are doing the drive up to orlando the following morning after we land.

We’re still here at the moment but 3 weeks ago we flew into Miami as the saving over Orlando was massive, got through the airport so much faster than any time we’ve flown into Orlando too and the drive up the us27 took us about 3-3.5 hours.
I’d certainly do it again if the saving was worth it but if its not obviously I’d rather fly into Orlando as its closer.

We’ve done Miami quite a few times now as we save over a £1000 in school holidays and we either have a few days there first or stop somewhere else for a night as a change

We have flown in to Miami twice now and are doing this route again this summer. We have sailed through Miami airport quickly both times, the first year we collected the car and drove to a hotel about half an hour away. Last year we stayed at the Sheraton at the airport and caught the free shuttle. We then just crossed the road and walked in to the car hire garage early the next morning and were on our way. We go up the 27 as that’s where we stay and it’s an easy quiet drive. On our return, we went to the massive Sawgrass Mills mall near Miami, did some shopping and had something to eat before we went to the airport. The year before we went to Vero Beach for one night and then were closer to the airport. As long as there are savings to be made, we would fly in to Miami as we don’t find it a hassle at all.

We flew to Miami on our last trip, mainly because the flights with Thomas Cook were really cheap Miami Airport wasn't too bad, busy but manageable.. getting out of Miami was a bit scary only because we have never done it before.. we stayed in Ft Lauderdale for one night right on the beach which was lovely drove to Anna Maria, which was quite a long drive, but ok , spend a week there, then drove to Orlando and spend 6 days there before driving back to Miami.. would I do it again.. ? probably not.

Will look at a hotel in Miami for 1st night and take it from there I think.
It’s more as we were flying so far for Wrestlemania we thought we’d make a proper holiday of it so I suggested Orlando as we’ve never taken the children, weren’t planning Disney though.
Our No 1 choice is Tampa but BA prices for TPA at Christmas ‘19 just weren’t budging downwards.
However, LHR-MIA-TPA with BA on transatlantic legs & AA on the domestic legs were coming in at £1000 cheaper for me & DH than LGW-TPA so we’re doing that.
We have 4 hours layover on the way out & 3 hours on the way home so feel ok re connection times.

It’s called an open-jaw, quite common and no reason why the prices would not be competitive. Not considered one-ways, as long as the flights are on the same airline or airlines with partnerships (eg AA/BA, VS/DL). In fact, it can sometimes work out cheaper if one of the routes is to/from a lower demand airport.

We are flying into Miami this year. Saved about £1000 compared to flying into MCO directly.
Saved another £500 by flying a few days earlier too.
This was important as we were going to be holidaying in Europe this year but we worked out it was just as cheap to fly to the US
