Sureflap cat flap

We have had our microchip cat flap for about 8 years now and had no problems apart from one of our cats comes through the door so slowly sometimes the grey lock pops up before the flap is in place, therefore leaving it 'open' to unwanted cats getting in.

So at night we have been locking it 'entry wise' so our cats can go out for their business but if we are in bed they will have to wait to come in when we get up. The last 3 mornings I have gone down and the flap is inside the lock, the cat food bowls are empty and it stinks of cat spray. We have no idea how they are doing this as we have tried to push it ourselves but it won't budge. But also confused as to how the culprit is getting out as he/she would have to pull the flap to get out as the lock is still up so it won't pass it if they push it.

Our old cat used to bat the flap with her paw till it bounced on the catch then catch it with her paw and open it.

I used to have a cat who would always pull the flap open instead of pushing it. She used her claws to hook the side. If they know it's a cat flap they will work around the problem unless it's completely locked

We had a problem with a feral stray forcing his way through the Sure flap -sheer power! So we changed to the Pet Door also made by Sureflap as it has 2 locks so he couldn't get in

They have very kindly said they will send us a new front flap so maybe it will be better. I wedged it shut last night with my linen basked propped against a solid wooden dining chair. Our cats could still get out but there was no way it could be pushed open to get in.

Just googled the Pet Door. My son would love that so he could see what his cat is up to leaving and entering the house.

Great idea but mine would tell me "Sahara went out" & 2 seconds later "Sahara has entered the house"
This would be repeated every minute.
Sahara is a madam & sticks her head out realises it's cold/wet and takes her head in. Sahara sneaks in & out so slowly that the cat flap is left open.
Def going to consider this pet door as we would be able to keep an eye on her when away/out for the day. Big brother is watching (or rather big mummy is watching her).

There are 2 Pet Door -the ordinary one and the Pet Door Connect - it's the Connect one that does notifications to "normal one" doesn't do that. We have the "normal one" but we do have a camera on the flap so that when I am away I can count my 5 back in at night as the timer on the flap lets them back in but they can't go back out after 8.00pm!

Ours would go scatty if we kept them in overnight, They would keep waking us up until we let them out.
