Tom Tom USA app for iphone

Would people recommend it? Does it work well just using GPS signal? Would welcome any opinions. Many thanks.

I use 'here'. It's free and you can download the maps and use offline without the need for data connection. Works really well. It has just been bought out by BMW so don't know if that will change the fact it's free.

I just used the google maps that came on my phone. I had the 3 feel at home so I had all you can eat data. It was great. I'd definitely use it again.

Thank you, I was a bit wary of the free apps in case they didn't work so well. I'll download 'here' based on your experience and give it a try in this country to see how I get on with it. Would still be interested in hearing Tom Tom experiences if anyone has any. Thanks all.

It's the data roaming charges that worry me on google maps. I'm on EE. I think I could buy a data bundle but I'd still be panicking! I'm a bit of a worrier and turn off 3G when I'm abroad just in case. But if you say 'download' google maps, I guess it would be stored on my phone and therefore wouldn't use data? Sorry if I sound thick.

I'm on EE as well. I got the 3feel at home SIM card free through their website. My phone is unlocked so I put the 3 sim in my phone and put my EE sim in an old phone that I left in the room and checked every evening for messages. Anyone that had to be in contact with me I gave the 3 sim phone number to. Google maps uses data but the 3 sim is all you use(well not technically but you'd have to download an extreme amount to go over the allowance)

Navmii is a brilliant free app for an iPhone which uses gps so no nasty charges. We used it for a 3 week drive around Florida last year and didn't get lost once! There's a USA and a uk version which are both very reliable.

Sorry, can't comment on the TomTom app, but another cheaper alternative that uses no data is Copilot live. I have used it on two trips to the West Coast now with no problems.

I have the tom tom go app which has worked well in the UK and Europe. I have downloaded the maps for Florida for our trip. It has the advantage of not using data. We also have a three sim card as Google maps also shows live traffic data and reroutes you a quicker way. Out hire car includes sat nav but I like to have a back up.
