When I worked in M&S, someone done that with a child’s coat...leaving a manky one on the hanger, with the child’s name in!

I ordered tuxedo trousers for DS on my account with a popular high street store's Directory. They also arrived as you describe, but the creases in the groin area and behind the knees made it pretty obvious they'd been worn.

I certainly wouldn't use the sniff test - made the mistake of doing this once with something on the sole of a shoe 🤮

Shoes are easy to tell if they have been worn , don’t know how they got away with that .

Everyone has their own unique smell ( whether it be nice or not ) I have mild Hyperosmia which is an overdeveloped sense of smell so I can smell the faintest of perfumes and sometimes other not so nice smells.

So I can tell if something has been used, the amount of clothes you see with fake tan and make up stains on clothes in shops is worse than ever, I recently wanted to buy an expensive pair of white trainers and they only had the shop soiled ones left in my size , the assistant seemed surprised I did'nt want a pair with fake tan all around the edge!

Can't for the life of me think what the brand was but I bought a dress for an event and it had a large loop of ribbon through the neck and down the sleeve with the shop branding on it, you were only to cut this off if you were keeping the item.

This would be the way to go for shops, there is no way you would wear the item with the ribbon through it.

I worked in a clothes shop before the rise of ebay/amazon etc and we had a warning from head office to keep the kimble guns off the shop floor and lock them away at night.

People were actually stealing the kimble guns so that they could attach the price tags back onto clothes after they'd been worn so they could be returned.

hi, I work for a well known retail company and it’s unbelievable what certain customers do, we’ve had returns which have obviously been worn but if they have tags still on item and receipt then we are not allowed to directly accuse customer of wearing them, although we can call our management team who can asses the situation and make the decision to refund or not, which will hopefully make the customer think twice about doing it again.
Our company, as like another well known retailer, have now changed their refund and exchange policies to hopefully reduce this happening, so people that do this should watch out, it’s not always going to work in their favour and there’s a possibility they will be left with the item which will serve them right.
They should also realise that doing things like this can contribute to retailers losing money which results in staff cutbacks, staff being made redundant and even stores closing.
What people need to remember though is that retailers can refuse a refund, or to take the item back if you’ve just simply changed your mind about it, the reason a lot of stores will take them back is that they put customer service first.
It’s a real eye opener when you work in retail.

Quite a few of the websites I buy clothes from have a big tag under the arms that state that the item wont be accepted back as a return if this tag is removed- it seems to be the independent sellers that do this as they obviously cant afford to take the hit of getting worn clothes back, it would be a good practise for everyone to do though to stop this

1) Wouldn't buy an item of clothing for £300 in the first place.
2) Certainly not for a wedding
3) Prefer not to be invited anyway
