Mobile Thomas Cook Foreign Exchange WARNING

I’m pretty savvy when it comes to money so I am fuming 😤.
During my lunch break I went into Thomas Cook to get a some more Dollars before we go on Thursday. Without thinking I asked to change £500 into Dollars and because my mind was not fully focused I didn’t fully compute what rate I was getting until I get home.
It turns out I was given a rate of 1.08250 a full 10 cent difference to the advertised rate- THE REASON WHY I WAS GIVEN THIS RATE 😡
If you do not ask over the counter what the Dollar rate is then you will be given the walk-in rate a full 10 cent per pound exchanged.
I find this practice from Thomas Cook to be very deceitful. This is in my viewpoint a hoodwinking ,deceptive practice of the customer and is profiteering at best.
Just a warning for anyone else.

Yes, my MIL experienced this too. I think this is the case with most tbh, you usually get a better rate online even if you pick up from the same place.

We contacted TC and they refunded the difference.

Awful practice by TC.

We find M&S and John Lewis to be fairly reasonable

The Post Office is the same. Order online for collection and you get a better rate than just walking in.
Some sites say that the branch rate may vary from the online rate.

Wow. I’ve experienced better online/pre order rates before But usually only a few cents or so. Thanks for the heads up I would try complaining and see where it gets you

To be fair if someone cannot be too bothered to know roughly how much they should be getting prior to purchase and also not checking before paying how is it TCs fault?
Buyer be aware as they say...

I agree its not good practice but to start a thread saying you are "pretty savvy" when it comes to money and then admitting that you didn't ask what rate you would get...….

this is usual and there are many threads about it - people say airport exchange rates are bad but any walk up rates are bad

I find that Debenhams do the best rates in the high street usually.

Just because I didn’t ask on this occasion doesn’t make me reckless with my money, hence the reason I am quite angry. Customers put their trust in reputable companies and in either situation you are still a walk-in customer.
