Newark Airport to Downtown Manhatten

Afternoon All,

we have just completed rebooking our upcoming trip to NYC and have had to change our arrival airport to EWR, we would usually get the Subway from JFK however this has now left me in a pickle.

Cost wise there is not much in the different options, and I keep looking at a taxi but friends are telling me its a nightmare journey, has anyone arrived into Newark around noon and gotten a taxi to the financial district and if so what was the traffic like? we are travelling on Boxing Day so I am hoping that its a little less busier than usual.

thanks in advance

I wouldn't bother , the airtrain is quick and easy and I've also used the shuttle bus to the Port Authority when I was going straight to W42nd Street . Personally I wouldn't cab it from Newark.

air train and the train into Penn Station is my choice, the wife has just advised that someone she works with did a cab, just thought it worth an ask.

cheers guys

AirTran is fine. If your hotel is way over on the East side that might be annoying. We had a decent walk to our hotel from Penn Station and in hindsight I should have grabbed a cab.

we used carmel limo, we landed @07:30-08:00 and were breakfasting at the tiktok diner by 10:30

train is quick but depends on as above your journey on to your hotel & winter weather lugging cases through the streets

boxing day i would assume to be very light traffic

thanks Guys, as i have said i am more than happy to get the subway and train, the mrs was told about the taxi but i am a fan of the subway and think it starts the holiday off with you in the thick of it.

from what i can see its the Air train around the airport, on to the train into Penn Station and then jump onto the subway (number 1 Line) off at Rector Street and then a 2 block walk so should be ok as long as we dont have a foot of snow to contend with!

We just got the airport bus! It was the easiest transfer we've ever done. You buy the tickets inside the terminal, near the doors and the bus stop is outside. The driver loads your cases and the bus stops at 3 stops - 1 being the Port Authority where we got off. We decided to do the same for the return it was so simple and hassle free.
