Passport renewals - wwyd? - UPDATED WITH BREXIT INFO

Dds passport runs out in March 2020, we need to renew our ESTAs in March too.

We’ll be in Florida in Feb, and then need passports again beginning of April for Norway followed by Florida again in May.

I was thinking it would be best just to renew her passport now and then get new ESTAs for all of us so that renewals are the same time (we’ve had them running on separate years since we renewed our passports a couple of years ago.)

But...

I don’t know if it’s better to wait until after Brexit, or should I just hold off and get the Feb trip done and then renew as I don’t think you get any time carried forward on passports now.

First world problem I know, but what would you do?

I’d probably just get it done now! Saves you worrying then! If you aren’t planning to go on holiday before February or will have any need to go to Europe I don’t think Brexit will affect you too much.

I’d renew now - you’ll use the carry over time, but given the timing of your trips, i’d want it all done before.

Did mine last week, using the PO digital check system in our local PO.

Back in 6 days.

Never gave brexit a microsecond of my thought process when deciding to renew.

I would probably renew after your Feb trip then you can all get new estas. Since last sept you can't get time added to passports so seems a waste to lose months validity on the passport . It's a tricky one though with having other trips booked but am sure there will be time between your feb and april trips to get a new passport.

Given passports run for 10 the difference between getting it now and being completely safe with new ESTA which would cover both trips or waiting where although unlikely something could go wrong for me it would be a no brainer. Renew now

Online renewal say two weeks I think but as mentioned got it back in less than a week and February/March are hardly peak time for renewals. Sounds like you have about two months after you get back in February so I’d do it then and not give it another thought

I'd renew after your Feb holiday and get new estas all at the same time. Passport renewals seem to be really quick nowadays and can all be done on your smartphone or iPhone.

Personally I couldn’t relax knowing they had to be done within the next few months and having to add to calendar etc. I’d get mine done now so it’s ticked off my list !
