Looking at how to get to the airport and thinking about a train?

Afternoon,

I've posted this before but having read lots of posts recently about the best way to get to the airport and the dilemma of whether to fly locally to LGW or drive etc.

The below link will take you to a rail ticket called the Gatwick Flyaway.

nationalrail/archi...3cebaecbe.html

We live in Devon and have used it many times to get to and from LGW. It's a cracking ticket and is fully flexible should you be delayed inbound.

It's self explanatory and the price, although not listed (from what I can see) is very reasonable.

Happy to answer any q's people may have about it.

Hoping it helps some people.

Great post, I’m sure it will help someone. We are flying from Manchester but are considering the train this time... thinking it will save a little on parking cost and means dh won’t have to drive after long flight back.

We travel from the North East by train to Manchester Airport. Quick and easy to do and taking into account, parking , petrol, and the long trek back after a Trans Atlantic flight with little sleep, it’s a no brainer.
Buying the ticket well in advance means we often pay less than than car n parking expenses

I did read on a rail forum that this ticket was withdrawn in January of this year? Just did a quick google and it would appear to be right. We always go by train - Tiverton-Reading-Gatwick and the price can be quite pricey if not booked early enough. Happy to be proved wrong though if someone has booked it recently?

Really! Oh that’s a shame. I guess maybe I should have checked that before posting...

It’s the drive home that’s the nightmare. I only have to drive 65 miles and usually do it in less than 90 mins but I worry because I feel so tired even though I sleep on the plane for a couple of hours.

If I had to drive any further, I wouldn’t.
