Mobile Chip and pin car hire

We leave on Friday and my husband has suddenly decided he doesn’t know the pin to the card we will be using for the security deposit for the car hire.
Will we need to know the pin or do they just swipe the card. When we went a few years ago they just swiped but I think that chip and pin was arriving soon.
Can anyone who has rented a car with Avis in particular let me know the process.
Thank you in advance

Will the bank know if they swipe or if we need the pin?

Only used Avis once recently and they just swiped my credit card in the garage kiosk at MCO. Skipped the counter about six times in recent years with Alamo at MCO and they just swipe the card.

As I don’t know whom you bank with I can not. But they will be best placed to advice you. I personally didn’t use a PIN last year avis but can’t be sure this year. Maybe someone who has been more recent can reply

I don’t think a UK bank will be best placed to advise on whether a car hire company in the US will swipe or use chip and pin at one of their locations?

See the bank and get them to give you a new pin. Tell them it is urgent and they should be able to send it to you quickly.

DH used a card he doesn’t normally use and didn’t know the pin to his card this time (Alamo) or last time (Avis) they just swiped the card. You’ve reminded me to remind him to request they send the pin again 😊 .

Now here's the thing, we can all say that "they only swiped it yesterday" but come Fri they could have new guidelines & it's Chip & Pin IYKWIM Last year only a few places were using C&P but I know from posts on here that it's more widespread now
