We are spending few days at AMI and flying home from Tampa, but flying into Orlando. Using SIXT for car hire at the moment, unless a better deal comes along. Would be great to use the VTP but not sure we will be able to.

Unfortunately you have to return the VTP tag to drop boxes in MCO. If you don't you'll be charged a $10 fee. The FAQs detail this.

Also if you look at the FAQs you'll see that the VTP doesn't work with Sixt. You'll see a few posts ago that I asked the VTP Press & PR company why Sixt wasn't included.

Whats the alternative if we cannot have VTP? Is it viable to pull up and pay using cash at the tolls? I can only remember going through one or two on our last trips…

Edited - I just read that its really tricky paying at the tolls, exact change etc, no bills, - guess we will have to use Sunpass or pay the hire company whatever they charge (I heard Sixt is really steep on this?)

We managed for 30 trips paying cash before VTP came along. Just get some change for a $20 from either the airport shop by buying a bottle water or from the first manned toll booth. Just ask for some singles and a couple of dollars in quarters.

It isn't that simple anymore. There are more and more exits that do not have cash options. These aren't on the main routes from the airport to the vast majority of hotels but are worth being aware of. The Florida Turnpike has a lot of these exits now.

For those wanting to use cash hopefully the first two on 417 south and the exits 2 and 3 still accept it.

Louise

This one on 417 was manned in Nov 2019 (around $1.75)

This one leaving 417 at j2 Celebration Avenue always unmanned ($1 in Nov 2019)

Thanks. We used Alamo before, both times, as we loved the straight to garage option, we didn’t have any toll issues using their toll pass system, it seemed reasonable, but, for our next trip they are quoting over £2000 for standard SUV, vs £850 with SIXT…

99plums outlined the Sixt "attractive" Sunpass scheme in post #155. Have you emailed Andy at DFCH for a car hire quote. He can do some good offline prices at the minute according to quite a few Dibbers.

My support for Andy on here over the past few years has been recorded a few hundred times.

Yes, emailed Andy, we are hoping the prices will drop nearer the time, plan to revisit this.

Picked up a VTP from the dispenser opposite Alamo (side A) at MCO a few hours ago. Had downloaded the app and pre-booked it, entered the code and it dispensed. Very straightforward.

I think you're the first Dibber to report actual experience. Did you enter the alpha numeric code or just scan the QR ?

Still waiting for side B to be added to collection.
