Arriving in Miami questions

We normally fly into MCO but got a decent deal earlier in the year with VH to fly into Miami.

Our arrival time is 16:35 and we are not considering travelling up to Orlando that day!

Our initial thoughts was to get a hotel somewhere near South Beach (recommendations of hotels or other areas welcome) and spend evening and following morning/afternoon in Miami. We are 2a and 3c.

However, i've seen a lot people on Dibb say that they stay near the airport and then travel next morning. Am I missing something? Or is it just peoples preference as to whether they've done Miami before etc...?

We’re flying to Miami in December and have booked a hotel near to the airport, with the intention of driving up early the next morning. It’s up to you if you want to explore Miami before heading up to Orlando, but for us, we want to get to the villa around lunch time, and then do the food shop to set ourselves up for the rest of the holiday.

We are now flying into Miami on 10th Nov. and have opted to stay at Hilton Blue Lagoon hotel for 1 night, they offer a free shuttle bus from the airport, then in the morning get the shuttle bus back to the airport and pick up the car, then straight up the I-95 with a little stop off on the way at the outlets at Vero Beach.

We’ve only ever stayed near the airport or we drive out of Miami and stay up the coast as the traffic can be awful in the morning, so gives us a head start the next day.

Plus, dinner by the ocean, and brunch the next day, perfect way to start the holiday.

We drove. We stayed around an hour away from Miami airport can't remember the hotel sorry. When we landed Oct 2017 it was pouting it down. Hubby wasn't for staying overnight initially but he was so glad we did. We were knackered.
If I was flying I'd just connect

We flew into Miami for Disney in 2016. We drove to Fort Lauderdale and stayed in a courtyard by Marriott near Fort Lauderdale airport on basis we would have driven an hour from MCO/Sanford.

Papa Johns for tea and a trip to the local Walmart to stock up on basics with the time difference meaning a early wake up we were in Animal Kingdom by 9.30 after a 3 hour drive up I95 and that included a rest service stop. If it is a significant saving wouldn’t hesitate to do it again

We've booked it as a through flight. Land in Miami at 15.00, fly out to MCO 17.35.
would you consider flying straight down?
