Hotels near Grand Canyon Arizona?

Hi all, we are planning a trip to Las vegas and Arizona in January, we're flying into Vegas and staying 2 nights at the Mandalay bay, we've stayed here before and found it great! Then we are driving up to Arizona and staying near the Grand Canyon South rim, we have never been to Arizona before, we are spending 4 nights here before driving back to vegas for a few more nights at Mandalay bay before flying home! So my question is... does anyone have any recommendations for hotels near the Grand canyon south rim? I've been searching around and was thinking maybe a suite at Quality Inn & Suites Canyon plaza? Any help, tips will be much appreciated! Thanks, Sarah! X.X

Hi solo, this is the link for the in park hotels at the south rim - we booked ours a couple of days ago for our october stay so we had left it a bit late and there were only 2 of the lodges left without canyon views but we are still happpy to be staying in the park and 5 mins walk to the canyon rim! If you want to stay in the park I'd book it now for your dates

El Tovar is supposed to be great , or the bright angel.

When I looked at hotels in Tusayan, the prices weren't much difference to the place I've booked, and its 7 miles away, the added hassle of having the car with you /queing to get into the parketc, I decided it'd just be better to pay a bit more and stay in park.

edited to add - just reaised you are staying for 4 nights - so probably you are planning to do more than the GC (unless you're doing loads of hiking), in which case maybe outside the NP is best - in which case I can't really help! lol

Just found this solo - noticed that one of the packages is 1 night inside the NP then 2 elsewhere, and rail transport included - looks quite cool but not read it in detail

Thanks... DH has no idea we're going to Arizona, He thinks it's just Vegas, he's always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon so it'll be a nice surprise, I'm going to organize a plane ride a river ride and a trip to Hover Dam aswell! I'm giving it to him as a christmas prezzie!

You have just spurred me booking into the Bright Angel Lodge as this is our choice of accomodation in October, but only for 1 night. Luckily we got a cabin although you were right Emma and not everything was available, thanks for posting this thread Solo!

There is a Holiday Inn Express which is located just outside the entrance to the south rim. It's about 1/2 mile from the Airport & Helibase.
